I am constantly getting lost in books … and this time — it’s Gary D. Schmidt’s fault. I’m reading his book\u00a0What Came from the Stars\u00a0<\/em>at the moment — and this morning I found myself thinking in an alien language. Seriously.<\/p>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

In Schmidt’s book, <\/em>a race of hostile aliens (the O’Mondim)\u00a0are searching for a beautiful (either extremely high-tech or possibly magic) necklace. The aliens seem to be able to control the weather (I haven’t finished the book yet, so I’m still in the “this is what I think is going on” stage) and they cause massive storms to hit Plymouth, MA. The storms are described in such a way that you FEEL you have just been in a storm … if you’ve read any of Schmidt’s other books — you know what I mean.<\/p>\n

So, late into the evening I was reading about these aliens who are causing awful storms that leave destruction in their wake — very rucca\u00a0indeed. These monsters leave fah-smelling\u00a0seaweed all over the place — and I wake up this morning to the most rucca\u00a0storms! And that is exactly what I thought. “What a rucca day!”<\/p>\n

Rucca? Fah?<\/a>Thanks, Gary Schmidt – now I’m thinking in alien.<\/p>\n
